Here are the details on events we will be having or participating in this November.
Kamayan 2009 (TODAY!)
About: This is an annual District One event where Filipino student organizations of D1 do a variety of cultural performances to raise money for a beneficiary (this year is for the Philippine National Red Cross and Gawad Kalinga). A few of us (Kayla, Francis, and Princess) will be volunteering for the event, so do drop by! And hopefully next year, if we keep on expanding, we will be able to participate in Kamayan 2010!

Admission: $5

Filipino Catholic Mass (Nov15)
About: Once a semester, MITFSA hosts one of the Catholic Masses with Boston College’s Filipino community at MIT Chapel. And afterwards we have lunch next door (W11) where we will be serving Filipino food! (Home-cooking by Kayla’s dad, so you know it’s gonna be intense.) BC’s Filipino choir is also looking for singers from MITFSA to join in with them! (More details to come.) If you would like to have a part in Mass, volunteer to help with cooking/cleaning/serving, please contact Kayla & Maita (atekai at mit.edu, mesteban at mit.edu).
When&Where: November 15th 1pm @ MIT Chapel
Admission: Nothing! It’s Mass! All are welcome.
** Really interesting sidenote, this is the day of Manny Pacquiao’s fight (on HBO?) which I heard is being bought at Simmons. Ask Simmons Residents (MITFSA: Vero/Maita/Nate/BJ) about getting you in or something.

Fundraiser Updates:
Teams: We need more teams to participate! We could also do a general form for students that want to participate but can’t form a team. They would just need to pay a $15 dollar reg fee and should be all set to participate.
Sponsors: Anyone think they can find sponsors to help us with prizes and gift certificates? Or maybe your family owns a random chain of stores, etc. We just need sponsors. Sponsor letter in Kayla’s dropbox. Email her if you need access, atekai at mit.edu)
Solicitation Letters: Send them out to family, friends, anyone you basically know! Solitication letter is also in Kayla’s dropbox.
Volunteers: Either sign up, or show up and we’ll find a place for you! But it could be in your advantage to sign-up because a limited number of shirts are involved and so there’s a good chance that if you volunteer for more than 1 shift, you’ll be eligible to get the official MITFSA Typhoon Relief Basketball Tournament t-shirt.
